FAQs

What will be inside the new sports facilities building?

A new sports facilities building is primarily a changing room block and is being constructed near Gordon Street and the existing toilet block. It will be in keeping with the shape and architectural aesthetics of the existing toilet nearby, although significantly larger and will include:

  • four change rooms

  • showers and toilets in each changing room

  • two umpire change rooms, each with an accessible toilet and shower

  • a kiosk with some kitchen facilities

  • additional storage and service rooms

It is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

How many players can be accommodated in the new sports facilities building?

Two of the changing rooms accommodate 27 adult spaces each and the other two changing rooms accommodate 20 adult spaces each. The bench seating can accommodate much higher numbers of children for junior sports. Each of the changing rooms has showers and toilets. There are also two umpires'/referees changing rooms with an accessible shower and toilet (DDA compliant) in each. Changing rooms are gender neutral, so both female and male sports teams and officials of all ages can use them separately for organised matches.

Will there be a kiosk in the facilities building?

Yes, a kiosk with some kitchen facilities is part of the scope of work for the new sports facilities building.

What will the new sports facilities building look like?

The new single storey sports facilities building will be in keeping with the shape and architectural aesthetics of the existing toilet block nearby, although significantly larger.

Will there be toilets near the existing children’s playground and the BBQ area?

Yes, there will be a two-cubicle toilet building installed near to these existing facilities.  It will replace the two temporary toilets that have been in place nearby since the park opened.  Each cubicle will be DDA compliant (accessible), and one will have a baby change facility.  The toilet will be lit, and will connect to the nearby sewer main in Lilyfield Road to avoid a tank system. The building will have vertical wooden effect slats on the outside like other structures in the park to blend in with the surrounds. The height of the structure has also been minimised to assist with ‘blending in’.

What sports can be played on the multi-purpose courts?

Basketball, netball, pickle ball, futsal, plus there are two hit up walls for racket sports and cricket using ‘practice’ balls.

Will the existing oval and rectangular grassed sport fields have lighting?

Yes, there will be 4 lighting towers installed on each of these 2 sports fields. They are currently being fabricated and are expected to be installed across a 2-week period later in 2024. The foundations were previously installed in 2023 when the park was being constructed.

When and how will we be able to book the new facilities?

The work to build the new community facilities is being carried out progressively over the coming months and expected to all be completed mid-2025. In the meantime, the Parklands will remain open for the community to enjoy, however there is no mechanism to book the sports fields at this time.

Who will manage the parklands in the future?

Presently Transport for NSW manages the parklands. We are in discussions with Inner West Council regarding a Care, Control and Maintenance agreement for future operation and maintenance of the whole parklands.

What are the opening hours of the toilet blocks?

The existing toilets are open during daylight hours, from dawn until dusk. In winter the toilet blocks are open from 6.30am to 5.30pm. In daylight saving the hours are from 6.30am to 7.30pm. The new toilet block near the existing Children’s Playground will have similar hours of availability.
